Now is the time to consider over seeding those existing sparse coverage lawn areas. Early spring provides the supplemental rain water and the combination of warm days and cool nights to help with the germination process of the grass seed. Properly planned and installed, a over seeded lawn is the least expensive way to increase the density, texture, and over all look of a otherwise crappy lawn. Using premium quality grass seed is a must. Utilizing a premium seed cover is also necessary in order to protect the seed from drying out, and being robbed by hungry birds. Using a quality soil conditioner such as Tri-C Humate with Mycrorizye is also very helpful in establishing a strong root system for the seed and providing needed microrbal activity to the soil to improve the soil environment. Go to the web sites listed on my links page to link with Southland Sod Farms for information on how to over seed and where to purchase premium grass seed and, link to Tri-C Products to learn more about high in quality soil conditioners. For seed topper, Kelloggs "Topper"is a industry favorite. Over come the bad with the good and enjoy a strong, healthy, naturally "GREEN" lawn today.

The world of landscape irrigation has just ramped up it's engines and has entered the "Next Level" of efficient landscape water distribution. Hydro-Rain irrigation products based in Salt Lake city Utah has developed a unique line of irrigation fittings and pipe that has set the standards for the future of landscape irrigation. The "Blu-Lok" line of irrigation pipe makes installations quick and without the use of PVC glue, plus, it makes the installation enviromentaly sound and safe. The pipe sizes available range from 1" to 1/2". Used in conjunction with exclusive "Blu-Lok" fittings which incorporate a "Shark Bite" (tm) type of connection concept, your installation crew labor hours can be reduced up to 30% based on the project size, scope, and site conditions. Once the installer starts using the Blu-Lok system it will be quite challenging to go back to old fashion PVC pipe, messy glues, and other challenges that come along with the use of PVC. I use Blu-Lok pipe and fittings on all my projects and have not had any call backs or system failures from using the Hydro-Rain Blu-Lok products. Go to the corporate web site: www.hydrorain.com to learn more and find out where you can purchase Blu-Lok products. Well not quite, but I did get your attention huh ? Winter is a unique time for ponds and water features. If you have koi or other types of fish in your pond they are possibly cruising around and just taking it easy in this cold weather. As water temps go down so does the activity levels of fish in most ponds unless you reside in some of your more warmer regions of the country or world where the temps do not dip below 40 degrees. The bacteria that is inside the pond water is not as active as when the water is colder. There are various types of bacteria and other types of pond additives that make the living environment safe, clean, and useable as the winter months seem to drag along. The increase of day light hours also increase the amounts of certain algae to the pond. Most notable and unsightly is string algae. The levels of bacterial that would otherwise reduce the amounts of nutrients in the water is lower during the winter so, there are certain bacteria that work best during the colder months so to help reduce the amounts of nutrients in the water that would help the string algae to thrive. Understanding the habits of your fish and the requirements for bacteria and other beneficial nutrients for your water feature will provide you with happy winter days instead of frustration to add to the grey over cast skies. Take some time out to go to my buddy Eric's web site at www.theponddigger.com to learn more about how to keep your fish healthy and your water features clean and fresh through out the year. |
